We have been working in the translation industry for the last 15 years, providing technical translations in the fields of business, finances, enterprise management systems, software localization, hardware documentation, telecommunications, energy and environment, information technology, Internet sites and networks, legal documentation, marketing and support material, corporate training, e-learning, etc.

Cláudia Pessanha, senior partner at Lácio, graduated with a degree in Linguistic studies (Portuguese-English), with an MA and PhD in Portuguese Language and Brazilian Literature from UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro). In the last 20 years, she has taught Portuguese as a second language, Corporate English, as well as Portuguese Language, Brazilian Literature, and Business and Legal Composition for university students. She currently lectures on Legal Composition for students at the Magistrate School of Rio de Janeiro.

As a project coordinator from 1999 to 2001, Cláudia was in charge of direct contact with translation vendors and clients, terminology research and development, linguistic coordination, quality assurance procedures and follow-up of urgent projects to ensure results.

CH Trans was created in 2003, with the purpose of providing translation, editing and linguistic consultancy services to major software localization companies. In 2009, the company was renamed Lácio ─ the Portuguese word for Latium, the medieval name of the valley in which the Portuguese language evolved from its popular Latin roots. Lácio is an evocative name for the Portuguese Language, referred by the Brazilian poet Olavo Bilac as the “Last flower of Latium, wild and beautiful”.
